There was one of the decisive battles of the war in the Pacific and also the discovery of the battleship Bismarck on May 26, 1941 during its pursuit by the British in the Atlantic.

It is one of the most successful aircraft of its kind and has been produced in large quantities. The last Catalans were decommissioned in the 1980s. Even today, they are used for various purposes, such as firefighting aircraft.

PBY stands for "PB" for "Patrol Bomber" and "Y" as the "Consolidated Aircraft" machine code in the U.S. Navy.
